John T Spencer
For eight years, I’ve taught seventh and eighth grade social studies, math, science, language arts and computers. I’ve taught all core subjects in a low-income school. My students paint murals, write blogs, work on hands-on interactive projects and film documentaries. I’ve also written “Teaching Unmasked,” “Sages and Lunatics” and “Pencil Me In.”
Presentation Title: It’s Personal: From Differentiating Instruction to Customizing Learning
Whether it’s classroom leadership, assessment or instruction, I’ve found that it’s easier and more effective to modify the system to the needs of each student rather than force students to fit within a rigid system. My goal is to be practical, personal and philosophical in explaining this shift (UTC-7)
